OUR FOUNDER'S VISION

Our Story: Called Out Upon the Waters

More than a decade ago, our founder, Darreth Jeffers, recognized a need that many people in St. Charles County didn't realize existed—men experiencing homelessness with nowhere to turn. Having once experienced homelessness herself, Darreth understood the fear and uncertainty of not having a place to call home. Her own journey gave her a deep compassion for others facing the same struggle.

While many services exist for women, children, and families, single men are often among the most underserved in the homeless services system. At the time, there was no transitional home in St. Charles County or St. Louis or that matter, dedicated to helping men rebuild their lives.

Each week, Darreth and her Life Group served meals at the Salvation Army in St. Charles. As she built relationships with the same men week after week, God began stirring something in her heart. Through prayer, His calling became clear: Open a transitional home for men. He even gave her the name—Faith Haven House.

A Calling Confirmed

In September 2016, while visiting Israel, God confirmed that calling in unforgettable ways. As her church group boarded a boat on the Sea of Galilee, she looked up and saw its name: Faith Haven. Moments later, the captain shared the worship song "Oceans," whose lyrics had been encouraging her throughout this journey.

Sitting there on the water, surrounded by worship, Darreth knew with absolute certainty: God was calling her to open Faith Haven House.

Today, Faith Haven House exists because one woman said "yes" to God's call. We are committed to providing men with hope, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and faith.

Dareth Renee Jeffers was born on May 20, 1979, in Clinton, Indiana, to William C. and Donna Jo Mitchell Jeffers.

Education and Determination

Dareth graduated from Turkey Run High School in 1997 and continued pursuing education that would equip her to lead, serve, and build.

Degrees

Higher Education

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Evansville, completed a Master’s Degree in Business through Phoenix University, and later received a degree in Theology from Merold University.

Service

Faith and Community

Dareth was a member of Harvester Church in Saint Charles, where she coached basketball, participated in church activities, and served her community with sincerity and joy.

A Meaningful Spiritual Moment

Her faith was deeply personal. She was baptized at the Baptismal Site on the Jordan River, a moment that strengthened her connection to God and reflected the faith that guided her life.

Dareth loved gathering with friends and family, cheering for the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinals, and making the people around her feel seen and supported.

Faith Haven House Was Born From a Calling

Dareth’s commitment to serving others led her to establish Faith Haven House in Missouri, where she served as Founder and Director.

Her vision was more than transitional housing. She wanted to create a place where men could find stability, encouragement, faith-centered support, practical resources, and a renewed sense of direction.

The mission she began continues to guide Faith Haven House today: helping men move from housing instability toward stronger foundations, personal growth, and long-term independence.

Obituary

Dareth Renee Jeffers, age 47, of Saint Charles, Missouri, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 8, 2026, at her home. She was born in Clinton, Indiana, on May 20, 1979, to William C. and Donna Jo Mitchell Jeffers.

Dareth graduated from Turkey Run High School in 1997. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Evansville, completed a Master’s Degree in Business through Phoenix University, and later received a degree in Theology from Merold University.

Her calling to serve others led her to establish Faith Haven House in Missouri, where she served as Founder and Director. The transitional home for men reflected her deep desire to uplift people in need and help create meaningful pathways forward.

She was a member of Harvester Church in Saint Charles, where she coached basketball and participated in several church activities. Her baptism at the Baptismal Site on the Jordan River was a meaningful expression of the faith that guided her life.

Dareth loved spending time with family and friends, supporting the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinals, and bringing warmth and encouragement into the lives of others.

Remembered With Love

Dareth is survived by her parents, Donna and William Jeffers, along with Shari Jeffers; her brother, William K. Jeffers, and Sherry Jeffers; her aunts and uncles, Deb Spillis, Karen Mitchell, Keith and Dawn Mitchell, and Roger and Deb Mitchell; her stepbrothers, Parker and Levi Middleton; as well as numerous cousins, special friends, and members of the community who loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth and Eileen Mitchell, William L. and Mary Jeffers, Lillie Mitchell, and Mabel Lindley; her aunt, Cathy Brook; and her cousins, Toby Higgins and Todd Spillis.

Her Work Continues

Dareth’s life was marked by faith, learning, compassion, and a willingness to serve. Faith Haven House remains committed to carrying her vision forward by creating a place where men can rebuild, grow, and move toward a stronger future.
